{"id":570,"date":"2010-10-19T08:35:20","date_gmt":"2010-10-19T12:35:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/?p=570"},"modified":"2010-10-21T14:12:38","modified_gmt":"2010-10-21T18:12:38","slug":"cfl-bulb-burst-into-flames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/?p=570","title":{"rendered":"CFL bulb burst into flames"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This email was received Tuesday, October 19, 2010:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Below is a picture of a CFL light bulb from my bathroom. \u00a0I turned it on\u00a0the other day and then smelled smoke after a few minutes. \u00a0Four inch\u00a0flames were spewing out of the side of the ballast like a blow torch!<\/p>\n<p>I immediately turned off the lights. \u00a0But I\u2019m sure it would have caused\u00a0a fire if I was not right there. \u00a0Imagine if the kids had left the lights on\u00a0as usual when they were not in the room.<\/p>\n<p>I took the bulb to the Fire Department today to report the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Fireman wasn\u2019t at all surprised and said that it was not an\u00a0uncommon occurrence. \u00a0Apparently, sometimes when the bulb burns\u00a0out there is a chance that the ballast can start a fire. \u00a0He told me\u00a0that the Fire Marshall had issued reports about the dangers of these\u00a0bulbs.<\/p>\n<p>Upon doing some Internet research, it seems that bulbs made by \u201c(Brand name omitted)\u201d\u00a0in China seem to have the lion\u2019s share of problems. \u00a0Lots of fires have\u00a0been blamed on misuse of CFL bulbs, like using them in recessed lighting, pot lights, dimmers or in track lighting.<\/p>\n<p>Mine was not in any of those.\u00a0It was a normal light socket.<\/p>\n<p>I bought these at (major retailer). \u00a0I will be removing all the (brand name omitted) bulbs from\u00a0my house. \u00a0I have not decided yet if we are going back to incandescent\u00a0bulbs at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Just thought you should know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Burned-CFL1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-572\" title=\"Burned CFL\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Burned-CFL1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"527\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Burned-CFL1.jpg 527w, https:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Burned-CFL1-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Looking at the EPA Suggestions for Cleanup, in the &#8220;Recent Articles&#8221;
