{"id":265,"date":"2018-12-17T15:45:44","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T20:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/?page_id=265"},"modified":"2024-01-17T16:48:41","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T21:48:41","slug":"videos","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Go slow with CFLs &#8212; Get all of the facts first<\/span><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><em>Thank you for visiting this site.&nbsp; The many people who are impacted by CFLs, their flicker, and their emissions, appreciate the fact that you are informing yourself on these issues.&nbsp; There are critical health and safety issues as you will see in the videos below and under the &#8220;Videos&#8221; tab, above.<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"has-text-align-center has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#e21111\"><strong>Here we go, again<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><strong>Just listened to the Department of Energy General Service Lamp Enforcement Policy webinar<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><\/span>Apologies to all of you.  I completely missed the promulgation of the new General Service Lamp standards.  Today&#8217;s (Wednesday 4 May 2022) webinar dealt only with enforcement of the new General Service Lamp (GSL) Standards.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#185c84\"><strong>Enforcement of the new GSL Standard starts January 1, 2023 and gets aggressive sometime in July 2023 (they seemed confused as to whether six months from January 1 was July 1 or July 31)<\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#dd1616\">The only mention as to the standard was a reference to 45 lumens per watt, which sounded like the new number.  <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#dd1616\">One participant inquired as to whether there would be any specification for the <em>quality of the light, to accommodate people with ADA<\/em> issues. It had not been considered.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#dd1616\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>To many, with an array of maladies, the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">right to light<\/span> is a critical issue. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>The quality of the light impacts their <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">quality of life<\/span>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">As CFLs are being replaced by other forms of lighting, the hidden danger of CFLs may become the toxic waste of our time.&nbsp;<\/span> <\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #008080; text-decoration: underline;\"><em>When people dispose of&nbsp; CFLs in their household trash, they are unwittingly adding to another universal environmental disaster.&nbsp; <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Canadian water quality guidelines (see below) state that one CFL, if it contains only the stated amount of mercury, could contaminate 190,000 litres of water beyond the level considered safe for drinking.<\/span> &nbsp; <\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Are your CFLs going into the waste stream from your household?<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: #000080;\">GE has, finally, seen the light:&nbsp; GE to Phase Out CFLs &#8211; going to LEDs<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">This is excellent news for all of the people who are impacted by CFLs and their deleterious emissions. &nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Now, GE, <strong>how are you going to reclaim all of the mercury from the waste stream? &nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">In the Havas &amp; Hutchinson Paper, they state that the mercury contained in one CFL &#8220;could contaminate 190,000 litres of water to levels that exceed the Canadian Water Quality Guidelines&#8230;..we are setting ourselves up for a mercury time bomb&#8221;.<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bloomberg.com, in a story dated 1 February 2016, stated that GE will stop producing CFLs, in 2016, in favor of the &#8220;more advanced&#8221; LEDs. <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GE, what have you done to our Nation? Your CFL bulbs are going into the waste stream.&nbsp; Do you have the corporate conscience to deal with an impending health disaster of your making?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #600510;\">At the bottom of this page, is a fairly comprehensive list of the medical issues which are <strong><em>exacerbated or caused<\/em><\/strong> by CFLs, their flicker, and their RFI, EMI, and UV emissions. &nbsp;It may amaze you when you see the magnitude of that list.&nbsp; Here is an excerpt from it:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><strong>NEUROLOGICAL: Migraines, Epilepsy,&nbsp;Autism, Dizziness\/Vestibular Problems, Seizures, Nausea, Cardiac Arrhythmias, Tremors, Anxiety\/Panic Attacks, Fatigue, Head Pain, Acquired Brain Injury, ADHD, Scotopsia, Electromagnetic Field Sensitivity, Depression, CFS\/Myalgic Encephalopathy, Photosensitivity (Critical Flicker Frequency).<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><strong>DERMATOLOGICAL:&nbsp; Lupus, Photosensitivity (medications), UV burns.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Thank you, also, to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Michigan Heart<\/span>, in Ann Arbor, for removing the CFLs in their reception area.&nbsp; The people at the Reception Desk complained of migraines.&nbsp; When the CFLs were removed, the migraines were no longer a problem.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Dr. Owen Z. Perlman<\/span>, a nationally-recognized Physiatrist, has stated that he is confident that more people are impacted by CFLs than are in wheelchairs &#8211; but they have yet to connect the fact that they feel less well with the fact that they have been exposed to the deleterious emissions of CFLs.&nbsp; This is also borne out by the research of Dr. Magda Havas (see her papers, listed under the &#8220;Studies&#8221; tab, and the videos, below) and her empirical observation of an oriental restaurant (which is CFL-equipped) having a diminution in the customers frequenting their establishment. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em style=\"font-size: 1.17em;\"><strong>Please check the &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Safe Places to Dine<\/span>&#8221; (in the right-hand column) for many more places. Main, in Adrian, MI.&nbsp; Your new exterior LED lighting is much appreciated.&nbsp; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Thank you for caring.<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Kudos to the management of&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Burger King<\/span>, for their sensitivity to and awareness of these issues.&nbsp; In addition to the superior quality of their menu offerings, their concern for the health and safety of their patrons is commendable. &nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Burger King management, please note that<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">a number of your Greater Chicago area establishments do have CFLs<\/span>. &nbsp;<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Please do take a clue from your Ohio and Michigan counterparts and convert to &#8220;Safe&#8221; lighting.<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>Burger King&#8217;s leading competitor, however, has yet to recognize the issue and continues to populate their newly-remodeled stores with CFLs.&nbsp; One can only wonder how many CFLs have been broken in those establishments and whether they have closed those stores while they cleaned up the toxic mercury wastes and destroyed the foodstuffs which were contaminated by the mercury.&nbsp; (Their latest letter refuses to recognize that a problem even exists).<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #810d8b;\">Speaking of their competitor, here&#8217;s an item by Jim Cramer:<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"chrome-extension:\/\/ohhcpmplhhiiaoiddkfboafbhiknefdf\/TMToolbar\/image\/tooltip\/webicon_green.png\" alt=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/101906202\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/<wbr>101906202<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #810d8b; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 1.17em;\">And here&#8217;s our comment posted to that blog:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #810d8b;\">&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"color: #810d8b;\">&#8220;McDonald&#8217;s continues to use CFL bulbs in their restaurants, ignoring the medical evidence of the impact of the deleterious emissions which exacerbate or cause a wide array of &#8220;hidden disabilities&#8221;. The website <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"chrome-extension:\/\/ohhcpmplhhiiaoiddkfboafbhiknefdf\/TMToolbar\/image\/tooltip\/webicon_green.png\" alt=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cflimpact.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #810d8b;\">CFLimpact.com<\/span><\/a>&nbsp;<wbr>enumerates those issues. Burger King has taken a much friendlier approach by converting to LED&#8217;s and halogen lights, eliminating the hazardous CFLs. Check their sales. People who dine in establishments with CFL&#8217;s may not realize why they feel less well, so they just don&#8217;t go back. McDonald&#8217;s has chosen to ignore this issue. Check the list of &#8220;Safe Places to Dine&#8221; at&nbsp;<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"chrome-extension:\/\/ohhcpmplhhiiaoiddkfboafbhiknefdf\/TMToolbar\/image\/tooltip\/webicon_green.png\" alt=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cflimpact.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"color: #810d8b;\">CFLimpact.com<\/span><\/a>&#8220;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #810d8b; font-size: 1.17em;\">This fits with Dr. Havas&#8217; observation which is mentioned below.<\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">The earlier comments on those issues were<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Congratulations to Burger King.&nbsp; They are using non-CFL energy-efficient lighting in their new and remodeled facilities.&nbsp; That is a very encouraging move which is indicative of their sensitivity to people with hidden disabilities.&nbsp; Please do show your gratitude by patronizing their fine establishments.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/li><li><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Also, we have been informed by Consumers Energy that they are no longer promoting CFLs, but rather are giving LED bulbs to restaurants.&nbsp; It is hoped that this is being implemented.&nbsp; (Now they have to determine how best to &#8220;round up&#8221; the toxic bulbs which they have sent home with unsuspecting school children).<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><em><strong>In April 2014, this came from a parent who is concerned about the safety and health of their family:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The administration of the Linden (Michigan) Community Schools needs a reality check.&nbsp; With all of the snow days they have accumulated in the winter of 2013-2014 they made a decision to have an Energy Assembly, on Friday, 4 April 2014 &#8212; the last day before Spring Break.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not only did they deprive children of an opportunity to make up for lost time in the three R&#8217;s, they also sent home toxic CFLs with innocent fourth and fifth grade students.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Energy-Assy-4April2014-a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cflimpact.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Energy-Assy-4April2014-a-1010x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Energy Assy 4April2014 a\" width=\"306\" height=\"310\"><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>If your child brought these CFL bulbs home, you might want to consider calling the school district and asking that they come out and pick up the toxin-laden bulbs, so that you are not left with the responsibility of properly disposing of them.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">By offering LED bulbs instead of the dangerous, harmful CFLs, it appeared that Consumers Energy (in Michigan) had taken a&nbsp; step forward in corporate responsibility and recognition of the deleterious effects of the impact of CFLs on so many people with hidden disabilities.&nbsp; Now, if they would only discontinue the practice of sending out &#8220;kits&#8221;, which contain toxic CFLs, to schools.&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em> Someone, please, wake up Consumers&#8217; management and wake up the (Michigan) State Board of Education for allowing this practice.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Back in March 2013, we had this comment &#8220;Consumers Energy (Michigan) is using children and teachers to promote CFLs.&nbsp; The Michigan Department of Education is a co-sponsor.&nbsp; Elementary school children are being sent home with an &#8220;energy saving&#8221; package which contains, among other things, toxin-laden CFL bulbs.&nbsp; Consumers Energy is shamelessly using children, and rewarding their teachers, to &#8220;push&#8221; a product which is harmful to many with a wide array of maladies\/injuries.&nbsp; This was reported by another Mom who cares about her family&#8217;s health.&nbsp; Who will take responsibility when a child drops one of these CFLs and contaminates their home?&nbsp; Who will pay for the cleanup of the toxic mercury?&nbsp; Is this the education which children need to succeed in life?&nbsp; Or are the kids simply pawns of an over-zealous school district and public utility?&#8221;&nbsp; Now, in April 2014, this is happening again, only in the Linden (Michigan) Community Schools.&nbsp; Are their teachers being &#8220;rewarded&#8221;, as was earlier reported that they were in the Jackson East School District?<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em><strong>Please review the article on Consumers Energy (Michigan) using children and teachers to promote CFLs.&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you want your business subjected to that kind of liability, when the mercury vapor spews out, or when people are injured by UV, RFI, or EMI? <\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Several restaurants, who have refused to accept the CFLs, tell us that Consumers Energy has provided LED bulbs instead.&nbsp; as a political issue.&nbsp; But to the many with hidden disabilities, it not only impacts their health in very serious ways, as you can see in the articles and Videos below, but it also severely restricts their access to public buildings and places of public accommodation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>To many with an array of maladies, the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">right to light<\/span> is a critical issue. <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><em>The quality of the light impacts their quality of life.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Go slow with CFLs &#8212; Get all of the facts first<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>If you haven\u2019t checked lately, the price on <\/strong><em><strong>a CFL 100-watt equivalent is just $6.77<\/strong><\/em> <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">($20.32 for a pack of three).&nbsp; And BTW the last of the <\/span><em><span style=\"color: #339966;\">100-watt incandescent bulbs on the shelves are going for 25\u00a2<\/span><\/em><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\"> ($1.00 for a pack of four).&nbsp; Why the high price on CFLs?&nbsp; Because they can!&nbsp; (They did it in Europe last year.)<\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">But, you are not charged extra for the toxic poison in the CFLs.&nbsp; But if you dispose of them properly, you will pay dearly.&nbsp; And if you don&#8217;t, you will pay even more dearly &#8212; down the road when the Hg contaminates our water resources. <\/span><\/strong> <strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">How much it is worth to buy something that pollutes the planet and impacts people with hidden disabilities?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>From the Physicists Newsletter which was rec&#8217;d in the email of 28 December 2011:<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>\u201cChina will build the largest coal-fired power station in Asia the official Xinhua news agency said Tuesday (27 December 2011).&nbsp;&nbsp; China relies on coal for nearly 70 percent of its energy needs, which have soared in recent years as the country&#8217;s economy grew at a blistering pace.&nbsp;&nbsp; China is the world&#8217;s biggest greenhouse gas emitter with many of its cities cloaked in a polluted haze.\u201d<\/strong><\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But, wait.&nbsp; Didn&#8217;t our government regulations have the effect of sending the light bulb plants over to China?&nbsp; Yes, and weren&#8217;t the CFLs supposed to reduce power plant emissions?<\/span> <\/strong><\/span> It seems that &#8220;our&#8221; EPA has succeeded very well.&nbsp; They exported jobs to China and increased pollution there as well.&nbsp; Apparently they don&#8217;t understand that the atmosphere surrounds the entire planet &#8211; not just our part of it. Yes, there is somewhat of a reprieve in the fact that the enforcement funds were held back until September.&nbsp; But now, according to reports, the clever folks in Washington are encouraging states&#8217; Attorneys General to enforce these federal regulations. The famous quote <strong>&#8220;I love my Country, but fear my government&#8221; <\/strong>certainly applies today &#8211; <em><strong>more than ever<\/strong><\/em>.&nbsp; Under the guise of &#8220;protecting&#8221; our environment, the government is destroying the quality of life for millions of Americans who have one of the many &#8220;hidden&#8221; disabilities. It included an amendment, presented by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Lewisville), that will delay the de facto ban on the traditional incandescent light bulb for at least a year. \u201cThe House has voted to delay the de facto ban on incandescent light bulbs for at least a year. Marsha Blackburn.<strong> Hopefully, common sense will cross political boundaries and result in the reversal of the ban on incandescent bulbs which has resulted in the de facto CFL mandate. <\/strong>In this political season, your encouragement to the sponsors and supporters of this bill could make a difference.<strong> It is interesting to note that one of the sponsors is a Medical Doctor.<\/strong> The Conservator of Art, at a major Midwestern University, recently pointed out that <strong>museums should not be using CFLs as the UV is damaging to the works of art<\/strong>.&nbsp; This being understood, <strong>why would anyone ignore the fact that the UV emitted by CFL bulbs would also be damaging to the eyes of humans and household pets<\/strong>, as UV-blocker glasses are not usually worn in our homes or offices?&nbsp;<strong> Where is the EPA<\/strong> whose job it is to protect us? <strong>The fourth Video,<\/strong> <strong>on this Home page<\/strong>,<strong> is of particular interest to folks with migraine issues.<\/strong> <em> It has a segment in which <strong>Lawrence C. Newman, M.D<\/strong>., a New York neurologist, discusses his experiences concerning the relationship between CFLs and migraines.<\/em> You may find the <strong>EPA Instructions on CFL Cleanup<\/strong> to be enlightening, under the <strong> Recent Articles<\/strong> tab to the right. Owners of places of public accommodation may find that paper to be<em> somewhat frightening in terms of their potential liability to their patrons. <\/em> <em><strong>Imagine what the mercury contained in a CFL would do to the food supply of a restaurant.&nbsp; Should the restaurant be evacuated so that the patrons do not get a dose of this toxic material? <\/strong>If you read the E.P.A. &#8220;recommendations&#8221;, that is what the prudent proprietor would do.<\/em> <em>One would hope that business people would be concerned about the risk of having a Hazardous Waste cleanup problem should a CFL be broken as well as the potential for further injury to folks who have an Acquired Brain Injury, epilepsy, seizures, etc. (the &#8220;Medical&#8221; page enumerates some of the maladies). <\/em> Traumatic Brain Injury survivors may find interesting information in Dr. Glen Johnson\u2019s study, in the \u201cLinks\u201d to the right. TBI folks may have yet to relate the cause and effect. They just know that they do not feel \u201cright\u201d. On the topic of Traumatic Brain Injury, <strong>Jan Hansen, Ph. D., a neuropsychologist, documented her personal observation, of the impact of exposure to CFLs, which was experienced by one of her TBI-survivor patients. <\/strong>It is posted under &#8220;Recent Articles&#8221; just to the right on this page.&nbsp; It is an excellent, detailed report of an extremely serious unintended, inadvertent encounter with CFLs. You will be amazed at the severity of the incident. <em><strong>Also, since Acquired Brain Injury is frequently associated with medical issues caused\/exacerbated by CFLs, it would be reasonable to expect that returning heroes, with IED injuries, may well experience these problems, but have yet to associate the cause and effect.&nbsp; If you know one, you may want to bring this to their attention. The Irlen Institute is studying this issue. <\/strong><\/em> In short, the indiscriminate use of CFLs <strong>could pose a serious liability issue<\/strong> for merchants who <strong>choose<\/strong> to use CFLs, particularly since the alternative is available in the form of LED lights, <em>which do not have the deleterious effects.<\/em> If you have experiences you wish to share or \u201cSafe\u201d places of public accommodation which you would like to list, please drop us a line or a post. A new feature is the <em>Hall of Shame<\/em> , a list of <strong>UNSAFE Places<\/strong> which use CFLs thereby causing serious health problems.&nbsp; <strong>You may be amazed that two hospitals head up that list.<\/strong> As you find places that should be on that list, <em>please send in a comment or email.<\/em> <em><strong>Thankfully, our good Canadian neighbors are much more engaged with the CFL issues<\/strong><\/em> than academics and the mainstream (???) media in the States.&nbsp; Dr. Magda Havas, of Trent University, Allison Vuchnich of 16X9 Global Television, and others are doing a superb job of researching CFLs and the consequences of the &#8220;explosion&#8221; of their use. They are working to get Health Canada to investigate theses issues.&nbsp; <strong>In Switzerland, Allison Vuchnich found that researchers there have determined that the standards for spurious emissions may not be sufficient to protect us from the harm of CFLs.
